Belle’s Polka Dot Cookies


1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, tightly packed
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts are my favorite)
1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries
6-ounce package chocolate chips
1/4 teaspoon salt
A grown-up to help you with the tricky stuff


Preheat oven to 375°.

In a small mixing bowl, beat the egg slightly and blend in vanilla and milk. In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar, and brown sugar. In another large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add flour mixture alternately with liquid mixture to butter and sugar mixture and mix well. Add cherries, nuts, and chocolate chips, and mix well.

Refrigerate at least one hour.

Place rounded teaspoons of dough on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove and cool. Eat, share, and enjoy!
